On the 5th April last we issued an appeal for funds for the restoration of the large Celtic cross in St. Joseph’s cemetery Castlerea Co. Roscommon erected in memory of John Lavin. We would like to sincerely thank all those who have contributed to this project and advise them that work is currently underway to restore the memorial. The restoration is being carried out by local monumental sculptors Gabriel Hawthorne & Son and should be completed by the end of November. It is our intention to hold a commemoration for John Lavin in the spring 2011 and we will confirm the date in the New Year.
